A Place for Mom has scored National Church Residences with 6.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 33 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, National Church Residences has 160 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 3.3 out of 5.
I've lived here for 13yrs. and the first 6 was great but in the last 7yrs. this place has done nothing but go down hill. It's over run with roaches, bedbugs and who knows what else. I've told them several times about my carpet unraveling and nothing was done. I sit here 2 months last summer with no air conditioning until I called HUD then they got me a new one. Management had no interest in fixing the problems here. Washers and dryer stay basically broken except 2 or 3 at a time. Trying to get out of here as soon as I can afford it. Would not recommend.

Bad experience. We had a nice sales consultant .The independent living spaces were perfect. All along as part of their sales pitch they stressed an openness to customizing. After a couple of discussions, which were put in writing each time we had our agreement. However, when I got the final letter I was shocked - nothing agreed upon was there. And I mean nothing PLUS costs were higher. The manager (who had been copied all along on everything) decided to ignore it all. She made the excuse that she hadn't been involved and thus the things we had agreed upon weren't something they did. She literally threw her salesperson under the bus. It was a huge red flag. Even if you have things in writing it appears that doesn't matter. Imagine once your loved one is already there. It was a total waste of time. Without trust what do you have?

My mom is in assisted living there. The place is beautiful, her apartment is beautiful, its gated, there is good and safe walking. Nice pool, and library. Unfortunately the food is genuinely terrible. It was reasonably ok when mom moved in, but since the lockdown, its been really bad. No fresh fruit for ages. Lots of empty carbs. Unpalatable food. Mom has been spending $300-400/month on groceries...in a place that is supposed to be providing all meals. Mother and I spoke to the Director and the head of the kitchen, with specific requests: No pasta, no deep fried or breaded food, and please provide fresh fruit every day. These simple requests are not honored. Days after the meetings, I called mom and she was delivered a pasta main dish with a pasta side. i might expect this in a very low quality place, but I expect much more from Waters Edge, based on the beautiful facilities and the amount of money mom is paying. Others have made complaints to the Florida State ombudsman. I know that there has been turnover with the chefs, and the director recently left...perhaps let go. Other than the food issue he was quite nice and helpful. Recently residents who manage their own medication had locks installed in their kitchen cabinets and were instructed to lock up their meds. There is some talk of jewelry going missing too. The residents have been confined to their rooms and told not to visit with each other for the past 6 months. Activities such as they are, are in the morning, which is a bad time for older people. I don't know how other places have handled covid, but it has been very lonely and depressing for mom. I do like the place, but I can't recommend Waters Edge at this time. Maybe corporate will increase the food budget or they will hire someone who can provide decent food. At this point the food does not support health.

Attractive facility but expensive and very poorly managed. Any for profit enterprise run as it is would be bankrupt. Food average but expensive. Housekeeping in the apartments all but nonexistent. Staff generally friendly but obviously untrained. Nursing/Healthcare just terrible. Understaffed, no management visible, aides sit around in unoccupied rooms and watch TV. Patients wait 20 - 30 minutes for someone to answer a call. Everybody is sorry, everybody has an excuse, nothing is done.

The current website is out of date and totally misleading. This is now independent living only with no senior services as was previously promoted by NCS. Only found this out during a drop-by visit. Voice messages were not returned. If all you want is a 55+ apartment, that's all you'll get. Seems odd NCS staff was unaware of the website problem even though the changes are several months old.

The manager didn't get there until a couple minutes after my appointment time. She was completely unaware that I HAD an appointment. About the community: it was atrocious! Dirty walls, snags in carpeting, dim hallways, not a single resident was out in the sitting area. The rooms I saw were not ready, so I have to be lenient with my review of them. They would be somewhat okay once they are prepped, but this place definitely would NOT be where I'd want anyone I care about to be. This is only an Independent Living community, but truthfully, it was gross. I couldn't wait to get out of there!

Our experience at Water's Edge of Bradenton has not been a good one. We placed my mother there because of the activities director and he was let go shortly after my mom moved in and they have not replaced him. My mother is still high function even with her dementia and in the memory unit, there are not enough things for her to do. We have asked that they take her to the assisted living area so she can be a part of their activities and join in the dining room there, but this just is not happening and it has been very trying for me to get them to follow through with anything and they always seem to have an excuse for why it has not happened. Right now I would not recommend this community hopefully things will start to change in the future.

My mother was asked to move from her assisted living home because it was a multi-floor community with no ability to restrain residents from leaving floor. They suggested First Community Village where they had locked doors and they stated more care for wheel chair residents. We weren't even there 1 hour before the nurse's aid left her alone, she got up and fell face down on tile floor. Ambulance then hospitalized for several days. They assured me this would not happen again. She was moved to another room on her return and it was very dark and uninviting in this lock down area. While there her new physician started to prescribe meds that made things worse. She started have small strokes and I asked what can we do to help her? Meaning speech therapist, something. This same physician told me, "what do you expect, she's old," What?? Needless to say between the fall, the locked institutional like environment I insisted, to the director, they get my mother out of there and into a decent room and fired that physician. They put her in a much better room, new physician, charming room mate with somewhat nicer nurses. They lost her hearing aids, not once, but twice. Every time I came there (at least once a week) I would have to dress her, feed her in the small eating area myself. The mini strokes became her demise within 10 months. I would "never" recommend this "nursing home" facility. Walk through it and you will not see one smiling patient. It will break your heart, as it did mine, but was too late for my mother. God rest her soul.

The first community my son and I toured – she was kind of snippy, she said, “Your down payment will be $400,000. Will that be a problem?” I won’t refer people to this community. I like the community I moved in much better and they were a much more reasonable price as well.

Attractive facility and centrally located. Most of the staff are friendly but not well trained. It is expensive and exceptionally poorly managed. The only successful program is Physical Therapy, the manager there is good. The most common answer to any question is "Gee, I don't know." The food is expensive and only average in quality. Housekeeping in the apartments is a joke. The Healthcare (nursing) wing is horrible. DO NOT leave anyone you care about there. My father was there and everything bad that could happen to someone in nursing care happened to him. He fell, got MRSA, cdiff, and bed sores. He was there to recover from surgery, but after all the infections they gave him he just couldn't recover and died. At present (2019) they are building a new addition which will be even more costly than the existing units. I wish I could say we had a good experience there at some point over the 10 years my parents lived there but there wasn't one other than friendships with the other residents.

Arrived as a step down from Riverside to the 1st Community Heath Care Center. Never got a Guidebook, or orientation. Staff at times wwould not answer the call button. Social Worker called all the shots and implied although we had a right to leave she would code AMA. No empathy or discussion mostly condescending. We stayed additional days for their covenience and paperwork was completed in a matter of minutes. There was no Therapy on the last day and paperwork was completed in minutes not needing a whole day.

My 79 year old mother submitted all of the requested paperwork 6 weeks early and was told by [name removed] that she was eligible to move into the next available apartment that came available[date removed]. My mother was excited to hear this news from [name removed], the unprofessional inept representative that also conducted a walk through with my mother on [date removed], who did not process my mother's paperwork in the 6 weeks prior. On the next day, [date removed], [name removed] called my mother and told her that she could not move in because she was approx $[removed] over-income and blamed my elderly mother for this oversight. [name removed] told my mother that she has other people to worry about besides my mother and didn't have time to process my mother's paperwork in the 6 weeks she had it. The website for Panola Gardens Apartments falsely advertises: "Regardless of income level, every senior has earned dignity and respect." My mother was lied to and disrespected by this facility. [name removed] needs to be reprimanded.

Have friends there. Hallways always stink & are dirty. Mgr, Maint & social worker play favorites & are lazy. Mgr/Maint speak bad about tenants. Some tenants have waited a yr for repairs to be completed then gave up waiting. Complaints to Corp office ignored. Tenants have to clean laundry room at their expense & empty trash there & outside & sweep walks for tenant safety. Potential tenants get one smell before entering lobby then turn around & leave.. They and tenants families, friends & visitors refer to Mgt & owner (Nat'l Church Residences) as slum lords. Can't rate minus stars
