Amber Court tour experience

I live in Westbury so I hoped this would be a good fit. I walked in TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I was told "to wait over there she'll see you soon." I waited about ten minutes when a woman came barreling down the hall approaching me, asking what I was doing there. "You can't just walk in, where's the form?" I told her that I did not receive a form. She then proceeded to approach the girl at the desk, and laced into her for all in the lobby to hear. As if I would ever consider placing even an animal there, I filled out "the form" which was nothing more than my name, address, and phone number. No one ever contacted me!

Not a safe place

Really bad place to to a love member. This place doesn’t pay attention to a residents medical needs. Horror stories came out of there during the pandemic without a doctor in sight . Beware !

STAY FAR AWAY!!!

My 88 year old father with dementia was a resident there for a year. I encountered problems here & there but dealt with them. 1 day out of the blue I get a call that he is in the lounge outside his room [removed] in a corner. I have 2 hours to get him out of the facility or they are having the police pick him up!! First of all it was a lie. He has not done that before of after their claim. They just didn’t like him & wanted him out. It is also a symptom of dementia they should be prepared to deal with. My husband & I had to scramble & leave work to get him. He was so confused! I had to throw all his stuff in garbage bags & take him to the hospital temporarily because I didn’t know what to do with him. They never gave me my down payment back. They owe me so much money! They are the most despicable, money hungry, lying, nasty uncaring group of people you will ever meet. RUN!!!! Do not leave your loved one at this facility. Will be taking legal action!!!

Do not waste your time!!!

I feel duped by this facility and they are not up front with anything. After I flew to NY and paid all of the fees for this beautiful room, she was in here for 2 full days before they informed me she could not have her car. After only 18 days here, I had to move my mom out and fight a battle to get the community fee back. When she was here, there were constant problems. They actually have a big cat that would roam the cafeteria waiting for scraps. It smelled like urine where that cat hung out and I’m not sure if it’s the residents or the cat. The cat isn’t even nice! When I tried to pet it, the cat actually tried to bite me. While my mom was here, she had an assigned seat with a sign saying “lactose intolerant”. They continuously tried to feed her normal milk, cream soups, and pizza. After she asked for a different meal and waiting a long time, they would serve her PB&J or a meat sandwich. The other incident that would happen is one of the residents was walking around late at night in his underwear. His lower half was exposed and when my mom attempted to speak with the staff about it, they did nothing. I would never recommend this facility.

Angry in Suffolk County

This facility is a nightmare for all types of senior care. I have a relative with limited mobility that lived there for a year. We were assured they could handle her needs. Our rates were raised after a period of time and were once again assured our loved one would get the extra care needed. This did not happen. Our loved one spent many hours alone in the room without a changing or any checking resulting in injuries and UTI infections. She was dropped by an aid on several occasions and fell out of bed requiring a hospital visit or sometimes a stay. The day room smells horrific and hits you as soon as you walk in the door. Many are left there unchanged for hours on end. They are also severely understaffed. It would take up to 30 minutes to get someone to respond to a call for assistance. Do not consider this as a place for anyone. I am so sorry we left our loved one there as long as we did. I can't believe this facility is still in business.

Never again

My uncle lived in this facility for about a year and a half. The rooms are decent, many with beautiful views of Lake Ronkonkoma. Not a bad dinner menu. Enough activities to keep your loved ones busy, that is: if they are coherent. The staff that loved ones deal with operate like customer service representatives, nonetheless they are very nice. However the behind the scenes staff- not so much. I spent alot of time getting to know the place and I am very suprised about a few key things most of these reviews lack. Number one: The majority of the aids do not speak english. This made it quite hard for my uncle to communicate his needs. I speak spanish fluently so after speaking with a few of them I uncovered that The Lake Shore hires aids without ANY certifications. These women get paid less than minimum wage and many are undocumented workers and [Removed] immigrants. Many of them are very kind- but many of them are not and often skip showers if they are understaffed (which is almost always) and residents go unchanged and uncared for. This may have something to do with the very pungent odor that hits you as soon as you walk through the door, almost like the floors are soaked with urine. If your loved one is unfortunate enough to be in the back area of the first floor I would recommend persistance with the facility. They back area has the feel of an institution filled with uncared for residents which often are unable to communicate. They are often left to sit in their own filth for days. One instance that really stood out to me happened in my uncles final months of residency- a 73 year old resident had beaten his roommate to death and staff did not discover the incidence until the next day. If you are looking for somewhere to shove a distant family memeber and not look back this facility is located in a beautiful place just beside lake ronkonkoma which makes it easy to forget about them. Would not recommend.

Stay away

The help could care less, [removed] and the management of the facility does nothing about it. All they care about is collecting money, and the management of this so called assisted living facility will lie to your face. I would liken this place to more of a morgue than assisted living. Stay far far away from it if you want your elders to live out they final years with any form of dignity. Too bad I had to rate it is 1, wish I could give a negative rating, and it would be a big number, trust me.

Poor living and sanitary conditions at Amber court westbury

Poor sanitary conditions in dinning area. Dirty carpeting through out the dinning area. Dirty table cloths on the tables . Poorly maintained living quarters. Injuries to residents go unreported. Theft of clothing. We had to replace numerous items of clothing that were stolen or gone missing. We were told by a staff member not to leave her clothing at Amber Court. No one in the facility wants to take responsibility for anything. My mother in-laws suffer a broken foot that we discovered on a visit. We notified the supervisor about the injury. She said she did not know what had happen to my mother in-law. Someone tried to cover the injury by putting her shoe and sock over the foot. My mother in-laws foot was swollen and completely black and blue. It appeared to be an injury that was at least a couple of days old. No one knew or took responsibility for the injury or about reporting it. We found urine soaked diapers in her draws alongside clean clothing. All of our complaints seem to fall on deaf ears. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who cares about their loved ones.

It is a sad place.....

It reeks of urine, the bathrooms are shared and filthy. The rooms are dirty, never dusted or cleaned. Patients have other peoples clothes in their drawers and cabinets. A poor excuse for a "recreation room". When you ask a question they say "I don't know" , no one seems to know anything. My mother was sent to the hospital and when I asked, "I don't know, I just came on at 3'oclock" was the answer. It's just a sad sad excuse for senior housing. Keep looking...

Hungry!!

A Place for Mom was SUPERB in finding me a place for my father quickly and within my means. They were wonderful. As for Lake Shore Assisted Living, the food was beyond terrible. Not only was it unhealthy (a hot dog for dinner served to a 78 year old diabetic?!?!?) but there was never enough. After my father called me one evening CRYING that he was hungry, I went and bought him a refrigerator for his room. Unfortunately, the facility did not allow hot plates or toaster ovens. I experienced a fire drill during an afternoon visit that went very well. It was organized and all residents were rushed out. However, having visited in the evenings, there are only 2 staff members on which then turns to 1 staff member overnight. Should there be an emergency there is NO WAY those residents will survive with that lack of staffing especially those on the 3rd floor where my father was. almost all residents used walkers or canes. they could never get down those stairs without the help of more staff. I have already removed by father from that facility. It was a shame because the location is beautiful and the price was affordable. Unfortunately he was not fed properly nor looked after properly in the evenings.

Shameful

I have a loved one at Amber Court and I must say I am sorry I put them here. For the amount of money they are charging, the food is horrible-the health dept should pull a surprise visit and see some of the crap the residents are being fed, and they just increased the room and board. Whenever I can, I bring my parent food. The laundry is done and comes back with bleach stains, the elevators smells, as does the hallways. There seems to be a large amount of theft going on (not by the residents). You have people living there who are suffering from Alzheimers and dementia and have their money controlled by the facility. And somewhere in all of this money is being stolen. You call the facility and you get a recording about all the wonderful things being done for the residents, like trips (i don't think so), activities (can't name one). The only sure thing being done is the owners are getting richer, and the service poorer.
