The Sunshine State’s Medicaid program is called Florida Medicaid, and it may cover some costs associated with assisted living facilities. Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration offers two different health insurance plans through Florida Medicaid:
- Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) plan. The MMA plan functions like a basic health insurance plan. It covers preventative care, such as regular doctor’s visits, prescription medication, and some procedures. The MMA plan does not cover any of the costs associated with assisted living facilities, such as personal care, meals, or rent.
- Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) plan. The SMMC LTC plan is for individuals and seniors residing in long-term care facilities, including assisted living facilities. It may cover some of the costs associated with care in assisted living.
